VERDICT — CONFIRMED
Apple used its June 8 WWDC 2026 keynote to unveil Siri AI, a rebuilt assistant powered by next-generation Apple foundation models developed in collaboration with Google's Gemini. The architecture is hybrid: on-device models running on Apple silicon handle dictation, expressive voices, on-screen awareness and personal-context lookups across Messages, Mail and Photos, while heavier world-knowledge and complex-reasoning requests route through Private Cloud Compute to models Apple says were built with the aid of Gemini through distillation and training but are now Apple's own technology and code.
Siri AI gains a dedicated app with iCloud syncing across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Vision Pro. Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering, said Apple is 'introducing Siri AI, a profoundly more intelligent, knowledgeable, and capable Siri.' The features ship this fall as free updates in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27 and tvOS 27, with developer betas available immediately; Apple Intelligence requires iPhone 16 or later, iPhone 15 Pro models, the A17 Pro iPad mini, or M1-class and newer Macs.
Apple also cited 30% faster app launches and 70% faster Photos loading. MacRumors reported the new Apple Intelligence stack is built around Gemini models adapted to run inside Private Cloud Compute under a partnership with Google.
Why it matters
rebuilding Siri on Gemini-assisted foundation models formalizes Google's model reach into the iPhone installed base and concedes Apple needed outside frontier-model help after years of Siri delays.
